Another Name Added To Potential Inter Cull

While it had already been reported that Inter planned to move on from Radja Nainggolan, Matias Vecino, Christian Eriksen and Andrea Pinamonti in the January window, Gazzetta dello Sport informed today that Ivan Perisic could leave too if the club received a good offer for him, as his level of performance has not been satisfying so far.

The 31-year-old Croatian international, who in the offseason returned to Milan after a loan spell at Bayern Munich, has been playing in a new role as left wing-back, alternating with Ashley Young. He has collected 17 appearances (ten starts), scoring two goals and picking up two assists. However, he hit the net when filling in as second-striker as they were dealing with some injuries at the time.

On Sunday, Antonio Conte explicitly said that the players that are not in form because they are not getting minutes should go elsewhere and that he would prefer a nimbler roster, but more functional to his tactical ideas.

Our view

Perisic has been pretty lackluster so far and has not really adjusted properly to new role, providing little punch out of the left flank despite his offensive skillset and often displaying an unconvincing attitude. It makes sense for Inter to trim the squad now that they play just in Serie A, but Perisic would still need to be replaced if he bolted. Given that he has been poor as center back, they should consider using Aleksandar Kolarov on the wing, then adding a new defender for depth purposes.
