Antonio Conte has officially parted ways with Inter, as he has come to terms with the club to rescind his contract a year early. Suning is planning significant budget cuts because of economic difficulties; instead, the coach wanted more ambitious prospects. He reportedly received about half of his remaining wages as a severance package.
The statement of the club reads: “FC Internazionale Milan can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte for the termination of his contract by mutual consent. The Club would like to thank Antonio Conte for the extraordinary work that he has done, culminating in Inter’s 19th top-fling title. He will remain forever a part of our Club’s history.”
Conte joined Inter two years ago and finished second in his first season with the Nerazzurri. He collected 91 points in 2020/2021, pulling away from the competition from January on and clinching the Scudetto with four matches to go. He has collected 64 wins, 23 draws, and 15 losses during his time in Milan. He was eliminated twice in the group stage of the Champions League, but he reached the Europa League final last year, losing to Sevilla. He previously won three domestic titles with Juventus and one with Chelsea.
Inter now join the list of teams in the market for a new manager. The most feasible option is Simone Inzaghi, whose contract expires in June. He is currently meeting with Lazio president Claudio Lotito to try extending it, something they have been unable to achieve for months. The dream target is Massimiliano Allegri, who is in advanced talks with Juventus, but they have yet to reach an agreement on his new salary, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.
