Antonio Conte has done unimaginable things at Napoli since taking charge of the three-time Serie A champions in the summer. The 55-year-old has turned a downtrodden side into a genuine Scudetto candidate.
However, he refuses to back up such lofty expectations. Napoli eased past out-of-sorts Monza 2-0 on Sunday to dethrone Juventus at the table’s summit. Despite a stuttering start, the former champions are back with a bang.
Napoli slipped to a 3-0 loss at Hellas Verona on matchday one. But they’ve since racked up four wins in five league outings to return to the top of the three for the first time since their title-winning 2022/23 season.
Much of the credit goes to Conte. Not many coaches could’ve done what he did in such a short period. He has re-established a winning mentality at Napoli only months after the Partenopei slumped to a humiliating 10th-place finish.
A realist he is, Conte isn’t fond of the immediate media hype. Instead, the Napoli manager chooses to keep his feet firmly on the ground.
“Osimhen and Zielinski are leaving, and I hear talk of certain things. I know there are high expectations of me because I’ve done important things,” the Napoli boss said, as reported by Calciomercato. “But let’s let the fans dream while I keep my feet on the ground. There are many teams ahead of us that we’re chasing.
“I hear people talking who know nothing about championships. We need to accelerate to bring Napoli where it deserves to be, which is not in tenth place, 20 points behind Inter.“
