Geoffrey Moncada has been at Milan since 2019, first as head scout, then getting promoted to technical director in 2023. He spoke about a few topics in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.
“I talk with Zlatan Ibrahimovic every day. We have a nice and direct relationship. He wants to be informed without wasting time, and I like that. We discuss about the possible signings. He has access to a platform to analyze data and videos.”
“Alvaro Morata was the example of somebody we acquired without paying attention to the algorithms. We onboarded the Spain captain, who has won everything and already played in Italy. I was completely certain he would be perfect for us. He has an important mentality and is a leader. I reached out to the agent first, then Zlatan got in touch with the player since he already knew him.”
Moncada addressed a few extension talks.
“We’ve been negotiating with Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan for two months. We’re at a good point. I don’t know which one will come first, but we started very well. They are all really happy, and nobody wants to leave. The same goes for Tijjani Reijnders. He was a late bloomer at AZ. The negotiation to sign was born during the U-20 World Cup in Argentina.”
Moncada explained why Milan hired Paulo Fonseca.
“His playing style fit us. When we’re at San Siro, we have to control the play and the ball. We have to be solid on that. He has interesting practices. He works both on the single players and collectively. We’re only in November, and I’m sure many footballers will make the leap under him.”
