Arsenal Join Transfer Market Derby d’Italia for Lyon Talent

France U21 international Houssem Aouar is one of Ligue 1’s most in-demand stars and Olympique Lyonnais might just fall victim to one of the three European giants linked with a move for him. The versatile midfielder is just 23 and has spent the entirety of his professional career with Lyon in the French top-tier.

Latest reports from Calciomercato indicate that Aouar is not expected to receive a extension deal and with his contract set to expire in 2023, Lyon prefer cashing in on his services rather than let him leave for free.

The French-Algerian is the subject of interest from clubs from both the Premier League and Serie A. Arsenal are the English club in contention to bag his services, whereas in Italy, Derby d’Italia rivals Inter and Juventus are both in the picture. Of the three clubs, it is the Gunners who made an attempt last year to sign Aouar, but Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas and the management dispelled any interest.

Inter are searching for a potential successor to Croatian ace Marcelo Brozovic, who himself is yet to renew his contract with the Nerazzurri. Juventus on the other hand, seem keen to bolster their midfield with a young face, who can play alongside Manuel Locatelli and Denis Zakaria.

Aouar has 5 goals and 3 assists in 32 appearances for the Olympians this campaign.
