Arsenal Not Entertaining the Departure of Tomiyasu

A few top Serie A sides have expressed interest in Takehiro Tomiyasu, but their chances of successfully luring him from Arsenal are close to none. The defender is very appreciated by coach Mikel Arteta and isn’t on his way out, on loan or permanently. On the contrary, the Gunners and his camp are in talks to extend his contract, Fabrizio Romano relays (via SOSFanta).

Napoli have been recently linked to the Japanese international as they are seeking a defender. Roma and Milan would also be very keen if he were available, but that’s not the case.

Tomiyasu is currently contracted with Arsenal till 2025, and the club holds an option to tack on one further season. If the talks are successful, he will enjoy a decent pay bump.

Despite a pair of injuries, the defender has appeared 20 times with Arsenal so far this season. He recently returned from a calf issue. The London outfit shelled out €19M to acquire him in 2021 after he blossomed in two campaigns in Bologna. He’s about to leave for the AFC Asian Cup.

Our Take on Tomiyasu and Arsenal

Serie A sides love to bring back players who moved abroad, especially talented ones like him, who would fit most sides since he can take care of several roles and fit all types of defense, but there’s no reason why the Gunners would let him go if not for a very large offer, which is rarely the case when Italian outfits are involved.
