Arsenal tried to sign Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo before he joined Juventus, and their interest hasn’t waned. The Italian midfielder has had a challenging start to the season, and the Gunners are considering going after him again in January.
As per SportMediaset, the London club could offer a swap with Albert Sambi Lokonga, with both valued at €30M. They signed the Belgian youngster from Anderlecht for €17.5M in 2021. He progressively fell out of favor last season, and that hasn’t changed in the present one. He has featured seven times between Premier and Europa League, coming off the bench on three occasions.
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal aren’t the only ones keen on Locatelli in England. Manchester United inquired about him last summer. He turned them down because his priority was to stay. It’s uncertain whether his club is truly on the same wavelength, though. They might weigh a large offer, should it arrive.
The 24-year-old transferred to Juventus from Sassuolo in a €30M move, plus €7.5M add-ons. Technically, he has yet to be redeemed since it was a loan with obligation to buy. His importance within the team has been thrown into question in an informal interview by Massimiliano Allegri. The boss called him a backup behind Leandro Paredes, Paul Pogba, and Adrien Rabiot in his plans. The coach later clarified, stating that he would become one of the leaders of the club in the future.
Our Take on Locatelli, Juventus, and Arsenal
There’s nothing wrong with snooping around, and some of the recent moves of the Old Lady were baffling and schizophrenic. Still, it would be a stunner if they decided to move on from the Azzurri midfielder, even for a sizeable bid.
