Asllani Rues Missed Chance Against Barca: “I Couldn’t Sleep After”

Inter and Barcelona played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Camp Nou a fortnight ago, sparing the Spaniards a slim chance to qualify for the last 16 in the next two matches. However, Barca’s hopes were put to bed by a strong Bayern Munich on Wednesday, being dismantled 3-0 and pushed down to the UEFA Europa League.

In that match in Barcelona in particular, the Nerazzurri had the opportunity to eliminate the Blaugrana right at the death via Kristjan Asllani, who missed a one-on-one opportunity against Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in stoppage time instead of finishing it or passing the ball to an open Lautaro Martinez.

Following their recent win over Viktoria Plzen, Asllani has now revealed to the microphones of Sportmediaset (via SempreInter) that he was embarrassed with the miss that could have handed Inter a win, even losing sleep over it.

“It was a very difficult group that we could have wrapped up at the Camp Nou through me, I didn’t get it right, but thankfully the team made today’s match look easy.”

The Albanian attacker went on to apologize to the Inter faithful for the miss.

“I couldn’t sleep after making that error, but the guys did everything they could to cheer me up. I’m sorry for it and I hope that I can make up for it soon.”

Barcelona eventually crashed out of the Champions League even before they played Bayern, after Inter thrashed Plzen 4-0 in Czech Republic in the earlier kick-off.
