Atalanta Attempt to Purchase Salernitana Ace Hits Snag

Atalanta will need to clear a couple of hurdles to acquire Ederson from Salernitana. While the two clubs have agreed on the package, which would include Matteo Lovato, they are having trouble coming to terms with the two players.

As per Gianluca Di Marzio, the negotiations are stalling. La Dea set up a €26M deal, comprising €15M cash and the former Cagliari loanee with an €11M valuation. The defender has struck a deal on his contract, but he has decided to wait before okaying the transfer. He has other suitors in Serie A.

Atalanta have offered Ederson only a slight pay raise, which was not well-received by his agents, Tuttomercatoweb reports. The club and the entourage also diverge on the commissions. A further hindrance comes from the fact that Salernitana planned to replace him with Morten Thorsby. However, the Sampdoria staple has turned down the move, at least for now, Corriere dello Sport informs.

Our Take on Atalanta and Ederson

The problem with swaps is that the players have to sign off on the destinations, which does not always happen. Still, La Dea sent Matteo Ruggeri and Nadir Zortea to the Granata last season, so there could be different options if Lovato does not want to join. The salary of the Brazilian is probably a bigger obstacle, as the Bergamaschi are famously strict in such area. This leaves an opening for other teams seeking a dynamic and muscular player in the position. The 22-year-old would come in handy for Milan, for instance.
