Atalanta Beat the Competition and Find Their New Starting Goalkeeper

Atalanta are one step away from completing one of their richest acquisitions. They have reached an agreement with Udinese for Juan Musso. The Bergamaschi have offered €20M to seal the deal. They will likely wait for the end of Copa America to complete the transfer, Sky Sport reports.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini often voiced some discontent about his goalkeepers last season. He benched Pierluigi Gollini a couple of times in the second half of the campaign. At some point, the Atalanta manager openly stated that they needed to get better at the position, either through improvements of their own players or the transfer market.

The 27-year-old Argentinian international moved to Italy in 2018 from Racing Club. He grew to become one of the finest specialists in Serie A. Over the last three years, he has played 104 games with Udinese, keeping 29 clean sheets and conceding 144 goals. He has one cap with the Albiceleste. He will rank second behind Duvan Zapata (€26) among the most expensive purchases in the history of Atalanta.

Pierluigi Gollini will be on the move in the summer, but the landscape in Italy has dried up. Roma have zeroed in on Wolverhampton’s Rui Patricio, Inter and Napoli will keep relying on Samir Handanovic and Alex Meret, and Milan picked Mike Maignan. Lazio are eyeing him but Maurizio Sarri likes Pepe Reina. Tottenham have shown some interest, as they might part ways with Hugo Lloris, who has a year left on his deal, Alfredo Pedullà reported. Marco Sportiello will either remain as the backup or leave on loan.
