Mateo Retegui notched up his first hat-trick for Atalanta to inspire an emphatic triumph at the Gewiss Stadium, helping the resurgent Bergamo outfit end a two-game winless league run. Ederson and Marten De Roon were also on the scoresheet as Gasperini’s side picked Genoa apart in their last top-flight outing before October’s international break.
Gasperini couldn’t help but worry a two-week hiatus could impede his team’s momentum, with Atalanta running riot across their last two competitive matches.
Asked whether he’s worried about the break’s potential impact, Gaserpini replied: “Probably yes, we have stopped recently, now another stop. Many players will leave so it will not be useful for us.
“We did well even before Como, a great game against Arsenal and Fiorentina. In the last seven, we have grown, we have rarely suffered. The result affects the judgment even when it is not all negative. Today, it was important to win,” the Atalanta boss continued, as reported by TMW.
In addition to seeing his charges get back on track, Gasperini racked up his 900th point in Serie A as a manager. It’s needless to say the veteran tactician is proud of this outstanding milestone.
