Atalanta CEO Confirms Gasperini Contract Extension

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi believes the club has a lot to achieve under the tutelage of coach Gian Piero Gasperini, having extended his stay until the summer of 2025. The longtime La Dea manager was expected to stay in charge until the end of the season, when his contract expires, but Percassi has confirmed Gasperini for at least another year.

Speaking to Tuttosport (via Tuttomercatoweb) in an exclusive interview, Luca Percassi shed light on Atalanta’s current stature and what entails in the near future.

“There have been many confirmations. From those who were already here to the new signings. The soul of Atalanta is always very strong, and we can continue to grow,” before thanking his father and Steven Pagliuca for their support: “I have to say thanks to the owners, to Antonio Percassi and Steven Pagliuca, for their availability on the market. The numbers speak for themselves: unprecedented investments which are also the largest in Atalanta’s history”

He then hinted at a potential defensive signing in January.

“A defender in January? I won’t go into detail because things can change, but I repeat: the ownership’s objective is to always try to strengthen the team.”

Finally, he revealed the decision to prolong Gasperini’s stay arrived at the end of last season.

“When we had the meeting at the beginning of June, it was decided in this sense.”

Gasperini has been heading the Atalanta dugout since the 2016/17 season, taking charge of around 350 matches for the Nerazzurri since then.
