Atalanta Close to Acquiring Bayer Leverkusen Fullback

Atalanta will soon welcome Sead Kolasinac, who will join on a free transfer, but they aren’t done making moves on their left flank, as they are targeting Mitchell Bakker. The ex-Arsenal and Olympique Marseille defender could play more as a center-back in their three-man line than on the wing, Tuttomercatoweb relays.

The veteran will ink a two-year contract with an option and earn €2M per season. La Dea desired to add more experience to their squad because of their return to the continental stage.

Atalanta are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen to onboard Bakker, and the negotiations are progressing nicely. The fullback could transfer for around €7M. Roma and Inter have touched base, but the Bergamaschi are way ahead, Alfredo Pedullà informs.

The Orobici will proceed to trim their squad once the deal goes through. Brandon Soppy could depart, likely on loan, while they want to offload Merih Demiral. They prefer a permanent sale or a formula envisaging an obligation to buy for the Inter-linked Turk.

Our Take on Atalanta and Bakker

It looks like they are set to add two left-footed options after having none in the past campaign. They are working around the fringes rather than splurging without a big sale. He’d be an okay purchase but a truly dynamic wingback, like Fabiano Parisi or Carlos Augusto, would significantly raise their level and finally succeed Robin Gosens appropriately.
