Atalanta Coach Gasperini Confirms Faith in Newcomers

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has waxed lyrical about Gianluca Scamacca and Charles De Ketelaere after a 3-0 rout of Monza on Saturday evening. The marquee summer arrivals made the starting lineup in Bergamo for the first time, inspiring La Dea to an emphatic win over a tricky opponent.

De Keteleaere failed to score like he did in a 2-0 opening-day win at Sassuolo. However, his attacking presence was instrumental, with the Milan loanee pulling all the strings up top with his sublime technique and playmaking skills. Gasperini insisted in the aftermath that Atalanta are lucky to have won the race for his services.

De Ketelaere was signed by Milan when half of Europe wanted him, let’s not forget. He had a difficult season, but he learned a lot in his first year at a big club. What he finds here is the utmost faith because we do really believe in him,” the Atalanta boss said, as quoted by Gianluca Di Mazio

The Belgian’s new attacking partner, Scamacca, had a Gewiss Stadium debut to remember. The 24-year-old netted twice in his first Serie A start for Atalanta and even bagged a third, only to see VAR find him a fraction offside.

Scamacca allows us to be stronger in the air and that can be a useful alternative way of attacking, especially against teams that are clammed up. I hope he can become the first-choice center-forward for Italy,” Gasperini said about the new Atalanta talisman.
