Atalanta Exec Bitterly Comments on Ongoing Sagas

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi disclosed that their initial plan was to keep all their centerpieces, but they risk going pear-shaped due to Teun Koopmeiners and Ademola Lookman pushing to leave. He dished to Sky on Monday (via Fantacalcio).

“We must maintain our identity and objectives. For their first time last year, we had the goal of confirming all our best players who had led us to an extraordinary season. We began with such an idea. We were ready for some turbulence and didn’t expect some things, but we’re very serene. The ownership has okayed some investments. We’re prepared to seize some opportunities and we’ll see what happens in the next few days.”

Percassi was quizzed about Koopmeiners and Lookman potentially departing Atalanta.

“Our shared strategy was that. We didn’t want to lose any starters and we’re looking forward for the window to end. We’ve also been unlucky with the Gianluca Scamacca injury. It was a pity. It’ll always be up to us to decide the future of our players and set the terms for the good of the team. These lads often get bad advice. The fact that the transfer market is still open during games doesn’t help. We should regulate it better.”

According to SportMediaset, Juventus offered €52M plus €7M for Koopmeiners, while PSG reached out to Lookman directly, putting a €4.5M yearly salary on the table. Despite being very short-handed, La Dea still thumped Lecce in their first match thanks to the braces of newcomers Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui.
