Atalanta Eye Milan Target and Genoa Star to Plug Hole

Atalanta suddenly need an established striker to substitute for Gianluca Scamacca and have Tammy Abraham and Mateo Retegui on their radar. The Englishman has been put up for sale by Roma, which are waiting for the right offer, either from Milan or other sides, Corriere dello Sport informs.

La Lupa wants €25/30M for their outcast. Considering their other priorities, the Rossoneri probably won’t get there, if not through a swap. The capital club isn’t totally against such a proposal provided they obtain a useful player in return. But the idea is in its early stages.

Retegui earns a lot less than Abraham, whose salary is an issue for Atalanta. He makes €4.5M annually, while their top players pocket about €2.5M. Instead, he has an agreement in principle on personal terms with Milan, and Paulo Fonseca is pushing for his acquisition.

La Dea faces big obstacles for the Italian Argentine as well, Sky reports. Genoa are about to sell Albert Gudmundsson to Fiorentina and might not want to part ways with another centerpiece. They paid €14.5M to sign him from Tigre a year ago, and his price tag has increased since then.

Our Take on Atalanta, Retegui, and Abraham

The Bergamaschi have been linked to a million names already, but their signings usually stay under wraps until they are almost done. The Roma marksman is nearly impossible unless it’s a loan with his current team paying a big slice of his wages, which they won’t do if they have other options. The Rossoblù might not need to replace Gudmundsson given their other sound attackers, but losing another quality one would be too big of a blow.
