Atalanta – Inter Player Ratings: Romero Defensive Class

After a horrible Tuesday night which saw both teams lose their Champions League encounters, Atalanta hosted Inter in the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo as the two Lombardy sides were hoping to bounce back with a league victory. And yet the match ended up being mostly a disappointment with Aleksey Miranchuk’s equalizer nullifying Lautaro’s opener. So here are the player ratings for 1-1 draw between Atalanta and Inter.

Atalanta XI

Marco Sportiello – 7

The Italian shot-stopper can’t be faulted for Lautaro’s goal, and his double save on Vidal and Barella at 1-0 kept his side in the match.

Rafael Toloi – 6

Not a bad performance from the Brazilian, but his defensive partners were a little better today which explains his second half substitution.

Cristian Romero – 7.5

The former Genoa defender started his match by denying Lautaro with a brilliant interception, and then surprisingly won his battle against Lukaku with ease.

Berat Djimsiti – 6.5

The big Atalanta defender took advantage of Lukaku’s absence in the first hour to bully the smaller Inter duo of Sanchez and Martinez, before the latter beat him to the header to open the score.

Hans Hateboer – 6

The Dutch wing-back was reliable as usual for most of the match, but couldn’t intercept Young’s cross which led to Inter’s sole goal.

Mario Pasalic – 5.5

The former Chelsea and Milan man played in a deeper than usual role. But after a decent first half, couldn’t stomp his authority on the match as Inter began the second half strongly.

Remo Freuler – 7

The underrated Swiss International ran all over the pitch today, as he endlessly supported the attack as well as the defense.

Matteo Ruggeri – 6

The 18-year-old wing-back’s nerves could almost be felt with every touch as he was given a rare opportunity. Couldn’t provide the usual attacking threat posed by Robin Gosens from the left side, but his performances should only grow with time.

Ruslan Malinovskyi – 5.5

A disappointing outing for the Ukrainian who failed to link up La Dea’s midfield with the attack. His free-kick delivery was mediocre as well.

Alejandro Gomez – 6.5

The legendary Atalanta captain couldn’t deliver his usual stunning goal or killer assist today, but his movement and skills caused problems to the Inter defense, especially in the first half.

Duvan Zapata – 5

An almost non-existent display by the big Colombian striker who was mostly exiled for as long as he lasted on the pitch.

Atalanta Substitutes

Matteo Pessina – 6

The young Italian turned out to be an improvement on Pasalic, as he aided his side to reclaim some possession in the middle.

Aleksey Miranchuk – 7

The Russian attacking midfielder chose a great timing to open his scoring account for the Orobici, as his well taken left shot found its way to Inter’s goal and saved Gian Piero Gasperini the blushes.

Luis Muriel – 6.5

The dynamic forward was an immediate improvement on his compatriot Zapata, and eventually provided the assist for his team’s equalizer.

Sam Lammers – N/A

Johan Mojica – N/A

Inter XI

Samir Handanovic – 6

The Inter captain couldn’t reach Miranchuk’s shot in time, and awkwardly stomped an easy ball in the dying minutes.

Milan Skriniar – 6.5

The Nerazzurri defences looked better with the Slovak’s return, who’s main contribution was closing down the spaces on Zapata.

Stefan De Vrij – 6

Another Inter defender who helped in keeping Zapata quiet, but was booked in the second half for technical foul on Freuler.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6

The young Italian was solid at the back for most of the match, while also contributing up front with some decent crosses. But was unlucky to have Miranchuk’s shot go through his legs.

Matteo Darmian – 7

A dominant performance for the former Manchester United man, who easily won his battle against the inexperienced Ruggeri.

Arturo Vidal – 6

A typical Vidal performance, as he ran all over the pitch and wasted a one on one opportunity against the goalkeeper. His match ended after he hurt himself while sliding for a tackle on Gomez and getting booked in the process. A typical Vidal ending as well.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6.5

A cool and comfortable display by the Croatian who’s slowly turning into a veteran player. Most of his team’s plays went through him.

Ashley Young – 6.5

A decent display by the returning Englishman. Although he doesn’t look at his physical best just yet, but his beautiful cross provided the opener for his side.

Nicolò Barella – 6

Another Inter midfielder who ran a lot, but the dynamic Italy international should have doomed Atalanta with the rebound on Sportiello’s save, but he rushed his shot straight back at the goalkeeper.

Alexis Sanchez – 6.5

The Chile international is always a pleasure to watch, as he dances his way around the field. But today the former Barcelona and Arsenal forward couldn’t provide the killer ball.

Lautaro Martinez – 7

In the absence of his striking partner Lukaku, the Argentine had to play in a more central role. But after initially suffering against the Atalanta defenders, the Inter striker was able to slip away and brilliantly direct Young’s cross to Sportiello’s far corner.

Inter Substitutes

Roberto Gagliardini – 5.5

Perhaps he entered the match at the wrong time, but his introduction concurred with Atalanta coming back to the match.

Romelu Lukaku – 5.5

The big Belgian made his return in the last 20 minutes, but his threat was nullified by Romero and Co.

Ivan Perisic – N/A

Ashraf Hakimi – N/A

Danilo D’Ambrosio – N/A
