Atalanta Lose Three Cornerstones to Minor Injuries

Atalanta will be undermanned for the upcoming Europa League clash against Sturm Graz and potentially for the Udinese game too. Charles De Ketelaere, Giorgio Scalvini, and Matteo Ruggeri are unavailable because of injury, L’Eco di Bergamo relays.

The Milan loanee is in the worst shape out of the three. He sprained his left knee, with some effects on the MCL. He will be out Sunday too and take more tests during the break. The problem isn’t severe, but he’s not a lock to recover in the next couple of weeks.

Unlike De Ketelaere, Scalvini, and Ruggeri have some chances to make it for the tilt versus the Friulani, but they’ll be late calls. The defender has been nursing back problems for a while. He’s being given time to rest. Instead, the fullback sprained his right ankle against Inter.

Atalanta are top of the group with seven points. They squandered the opportunity to build a larger lead in the previous matchday. The Austrian outfits equalized late even though they were in ten men because of an early red card.

Gian Piero Gasperini will be without five players midweek. On top of De Ketelaere, Scalvini, and Ruggeri, José-Luis Palomino and El Bilal Touré are also on the mend with thigh problems. The Bergamaschi suffered their fourth Serie A loss of the season against Inter in the most recent contest, falling to the fifth position in the standings.
