Atalanta Make Surprise Move for Milan Midfielder, Still Tracking AZ Star

Atalanta intend to acquire another midfielder and have short-listed Tommaso Pobega and Teun Koopmeiners. The former is back at Milan after a loan spell at Spezia, while the latter could leave AZ for €15/20M. The Rossoneri have yet to decide what to do with their youngster, Gianluca Di Marzio reported. The conditions of the possible deal thus remain to be seen.

After breaking out with Pordenone in Serie B, Pobega confirmed his value in the top division. He bagged 6 goals and 3 assists in 20 appearances with the Aquilotti last season. Atalanta are looking to bring in another versatile piece to deepen the rotation.

Koopmeiners is a set-piece specialist and has reached the double-digit threshold in scoring in the last two seasons. He has scored 43 goals and tallied 17 assists in 150 matches with AZ Alkmaar. Atalanta have been after him for some time, Alfredo Pedullà informed. They will ramp up the pressure now that Netherlands have been eliminated from the Euro.

The Bergamaschi had also targeted Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht, but he is close to joining Arsenal. Despite the likely addition, Atalanta are not planning to sell any of their contributors in the role. Italy standout Matteo Pessina has drawn interest from Inter and Milan, but they are working on extending his contract. The Rossoneri would pay only half of his price tag due to a previous clause, as the Orobici got him from them in 2017 in a swap with Andrea Conti. However, it will lapse once he reaches a certain number of caps, which will likely happen next season, Calciomercato.com informs.
