Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has delivered a crucial transfer update on Juventus target Teun Koopmeiners. In an interview with Sky Sport, Gasperini admitted the Europa League winners haven’t discussed the Dutchman’s departure with any club this summer.
“We never spoke about other teams with him, neither at the end of the championship nor since he returned,” the Atalanta boss said, as relayed by Calciomercato. “It’s a shame about the small injury he had before the European Championship, which didn’t allow him to answer the call of the Dutch national team.
“He took great care of himself during the summer, and now he’s training well, he’s playing.”
Juventus have been hot on Koopmeiners’ heels for months. However, they’ve yet to make a concrete attempt to sign the Netherlands international. Thiago Motta’s men reportedly look to offload several fringe players before piecing together a formal bid for the Atalanta talisman.
Koopmeiners has been La Dea’s standout performer in the past few years. But despite establishing himself as a fan favorite at Atalanta, some rumors at the beginning of the summer suggested he was keen to leave Bergamo for a more prominent destination.
Atalanta would only agree to sell their talismanic midfielder for a stratospheric figure. It may take up to €60 million to convince Gasperini’s side to get their top player off their books. Juventus would ideally include several players as makeweights in a deal to drive the price down. Yet, that’s not an acceptable formula for La Dea.
