Atalanta Owner Slams the Door on Reconciliation with Papu Gomez

Atalanta president Antonio Percassi spoke with local newspaper L’Eco di Bergamo and did not leave much room for the possibility of mending fences with Alejandro Gomez: “We already talked about the topic enough, the matter is closed for me. Full stop.” The Argentinian international has been practicing on his own since the squad resumed working a couple of days ago and remains frozen out after the spat with Gian Piero Gasperini.

The owner fully sided with the coach in the rift: “I hope to have Gian Piero Gasperini on my side for the rest of his career and the same goes for the whole management which, alongside the tireless work of my son Luca, is allowing us to achieve incredible results.”

On the January window: “We signed Joakim Maehle, who is fast and physical and will make up for the departure of Timothy Castagne. When necessary, we need to intervene and add somebody who is ready to play right away like he is. We will not make any other purchases unless we really find the right opportunity to invest on. It was important to sign him early because of the upcoming busy schedule.”

“Nobody has money to spend in the transfer market, it will be full of swaps. We will discuss with the coach whether it is the case to sell some players or to loan out to other Serie A teams the youngsters that need to make experience. Moreover, I am sure Aleksey Miranchuk will eventually prove his worth.”
