Atalanta Set Sights on Fiorentina’s Best Player

Europa League winners Atalanta reportedly plot an audacious move for Fiorentina forward Nicolas Gonzalez. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Gewiss Stadium hierarchy keeps the Argentina international in high regard and could soon contact the Tuscan outfit to discuss a deal.

It’s a complex matter, though. Gonzalez’s contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi runs out in 2028. Thus far, there’s been no contact between the two clubs. However, Atalanta could launch talks with Fiorentina if they receive the player’s go-ahead.

The 26-year-old has been phenomenal since swapping Stuttgart for Fiorentina in 2021. He was La Viola’s most prolific player last season, tallying 12 goals and two assists in 29 Serie A outings. But, a lack of trophies could see Gonzalez force his way out this summer.

Gonzalez has featured in back-to-back Europa Conference League finals with Fiorentina, losing both. Meanwhile, Atalanta seized their chance last term, defying the odds to beat Bayer Leverkusen and take home the Europa League trophy.

Inspired by their maiden continental success, Atalanta bid to orchestrate a potential Scudetto push in 2024/25. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have already landed Nicolo Zaniolo. After less than two years, the 25-year-old returns to Italian football with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

Zaniolo’s exit may not be the only change in the final third. Atalanta could offload the club-record signing El Bilal Toure after just 12 months, with Stuttgart setting their sights on the young gun. Toure’s exit would only increase the likelihood of Gonzalez’s arrival.
