Atalanta Set To Overhaul Attacking Department

Atalanta will undergo massive changes in the summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in four years. According to Calciomercato, Gian Piero Gasperini will overhaul his attacking department as La Dea experienced their worst scoring season since 2017/18.

Luis Muriel, one of the headline performers during Gasperini’s era, is on the verge of waving goodbye to Bergamo. After an eye-catching three-year spell at the Gewiss Stadium, the Colombian forward is close to joining Roma on a multi-year contract.

Jose Mourinho initially identified Federico Bernardeschi as an ideal candidate to strengthen the Giallorossi attack. However, the ex-Juventus winger turned down the prospect of joining Roma to secure a switch to Major League Soccer franchise Toronto FC.

Bernardeschi’s rejection has forced Roma to explore other options in the market. They have turned their attention towards Muriel, who could be available for around €15m. Mourinho is pressuring his sporting director Tiago Pinto to close the deal as soon as possible.

Muriel’s potential move to the Stadio Olimpico will likely trigger a chain reaction. To replace the 31-year-old, Gasperini is ready to dash out nearly €18m to sign Inter starlet Andrea Pinamonti. The Italian striker enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Empoli last season, netting 13 times in Serie A.

Pinamonti’s inspiring stint at Carlo Castellani has earned him high acclaim from Gasperini. Inter are open to selling their up-and-coming forward after bringing Romelu Lukaku back to Giuseppe Meazza. Meanwhile, Atalanta would welcome Pinamonti with their arms wide open.

Duvan Zapata remains an indispensable first-team member. However, Muriel’s impending departure requires Atalanta to land another high-performance forward. Pinamonti could be a major coup for Gasperini’s side, even though his signature will warrant significant funds.
