Atalanta Set to Sign Sead Kolasinac On Free Transfer

Sead Kolasinac is on the verge of joining Atalanta as a free agent after running down his short-term contract with Olympique Marseille. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports the Bosnia & Herzegovina international will touch down in Italy next week to undergo medical before penning a contract in Bergamo.

Kolasinac moved to the Stade Velodrome in January 2023 after being released by Arsenal. The versatile defender was a significant first-team cog under Igor Tudor last season. He made 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille, helping the club secure a place in Champions League qualifiers.

However, with Tudor leaving France after only one year, the situation changed for Kolasinac. Les Olympiens freed him to pick his next destination by refusing to offer him a new contract. And the 30-year-old seems ready to embark on a new adventure in Serie A with Atalanta.

After five years in the Bundesliga with Schalke 04, he signed for Arsenal in 2017. But his Premier League career never took off. Despite having a tough time in London, Kolasinac still collected over 100 for the Gunners before leaving for Marseille last year.

Considering his vast experience in Europe’s top-five leagues, he could be a decent coup for Atalanta. Gian Piero Gasperini has been in the market for a new left-back since Robin Gosens left the Gewiss Stadium for Inter in January 2022.

While the Atalanta boss might have had someone younger in mind, Kolasinac could still fill a need. In addition to the Bosnian, La Dea could soon complete the signing of Isak Hien from Hellas Verona.
