Atalanta Sign Lookman, Receive English Bid for Stalwart

Atalanta completed the acquisition of Ademola Lookman yesterday and received an offer from Nottingham Forest for Remo Freuler. The winger spent the last two seasons on loan in the Premier League at Fulham and Leicester City, tallying 11 goals and 6 assists.

La Dea spent €9M to acquire the 24-year-old, Tuttomercatoweb informs. They brought him in even though there hasn’t been any offensive departure so far. Aleksey Miranchuk was on the verge of joining Torino, but Gian Piero Gasperini nixed the transfer late, as CEO Luca Percassi told Mediagol.

“We spoke with the Granata but, but the coach asked us to keep him. The move is off for now. As for Josip Ilicic, we have frankly realized it’s time to take a different path. Stories can come to an end.”

On the day they announced Lookman, Atalanta got a bid from Nottingham Forest for Remo Freuler, Gianluca Di Marzio reports. The Premier League newcomers proposed an initial loan move with a €10M conditioned obligation to buy. The Bergamaschi refused it but didn’t shut the door. The negotiation will continue.

The 30-year-old moved to Italy in 2016 and has accumulated 259 caps with the Orobici. As far as possible exits are concerned, Luis Muriel is the top fallback for Juventus if they strike out for Alvaro Morata, Calciomercato relays.

Our Take on Atalanta, Lookman and Freuler

It’s interesting that a side that generally doesn’t use wingers now has two pure ones, the other being Jeremie Boga. They’ll probably switch to 4-2-3-1 more often. It would be surprising to see the Swiss talisman go, but they have signed the brilliant Teun Koopmeiners and Ederson in the last two summers. If the offer were proper, it would be a smart piece of business.
