Atalanta Steal Brescianini from Under the Napoli Nose

Marco Brescianini was set to join Napoli, but Atalanta swooped in at the very last second, even after he had taken the medicals for the Azzurri in Rome. They quickly agreed to the deal with Frosinone, offering a little more than their rivals, Sportitalia informs.

La Dea will pay €13M, while the player will ink a four-year contract with an option. Milan will receive half of the fee due to a previous resale clause. He tallied four goals and two assists in his first Serie A season.

After the Brescianini blow, Napoli accelerated their interest in Billy Gilmour, Gianluca Di Marzio informs. They have agreed to terms with the player and aim to do the same with Brighton in short order. The transfer could come together for €12M plus €3M add-ons.

The Azzurri tested the waters for another midfielder: Manchester United’s Scott McTominay. They asked for him on loan, and the counterparty refused such a formula. Their director and Jens Cajuste’s agent are in England also to find an alternative solution for the outcast after the Brentford deal collapsed.

Our Take on Napoli, Atalanta, and Brescianini

It’s not great to miss out on somebody after the physical tests, but it won’t be too hard to find a comparable player. They don’t necessarily need to be super deep this season without the cups. Atalanta are apparently preparing for the departure of Teun Koopmeiners and will most likely sign one or two more midfielders. They’ll need also somebody more inventive, but the former Frosinone man looked very good as a tactical no.10 in Eusebio Di Francesco’s system.
