Atalanta Take Concrete Steps to Bring Italian Winger Back to Serie A

Shortly after the news of Nicolo Zaniolo’s imminent exit from Galatasaray hit the surface, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Atalanta have established contact with the player’s camp. The former Italy international will be available at a reasonable price this summer as the Super Lig champions named an affordable €15 million asking price.

Atalanta and Milan remain locked in talks over Charles De Ketelaere’s future. Though Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are hellbent on activating a buyout option in his loan deal, they need a slight discount from the Rossoneri to purchase the Belgian forward outright.

While working on an agreement with Milan, Atalanta continue to scour the market for potential attacking reinforcements. Zaniolo has recently landed on their radar, but the Europa League winners have decided to take concrete steps towards bringing the 24-year-old back to Serie A.

Negotiations between Atalanta and Galatasaray are underway, with La Dea looking to pip Villarreal to Zaniolo’s signature. The Spaniards had been in pole position to sign the ex-Roma winger, but the player’s ambition to return to his homeland could prevail.

Zaniolo swapped Roma for Galatasaray in February 2023. However, after only six months in Istanbul, he joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan last summer. The move didn’t pan out well, with the Premier League powerhouse refusing to offer him a permanent contract in Birmingham.

Atalanta would throw Zaniolo a lifeline in Serie A. But there’s a feeling they must sort out De Ketelaere’s future first.
