Atalanta Tipped to Beat Milan and Chelsea to Sign Defensive Prospect

Atalanta are poised to come out on top in the race to acquire Malmoe defender Anel Ahmedhodzic, as the player himself confirmed in an interview on Gianlucadimarzio.com. He was already linked to the Goddess in January, but the team did not pull the trigger, while the Rossoneri added Fikayo Tomori on loan with option to buy from Chelsea.

“My move to Atalanta is not official yet. Two other teams in Italy pursued me, but the negotiation with the Nerazzurri is in its advanced stages at this point,” the 21-year-old defender said on Clubhouse. “Milan inquired about me, Paolo Maldini has been one of my idols since I was a kid and I try to model my game after him. I have discussed about moving to Serie A with Miralem Pjanic and Edin Dzeko and especially with my friend Dejan Kulusevski. Atalanta is an ideal place for somebody who wants to grow, I am looking forward to the challenge. My favorite player on the roster is Josip Ilicic.”

Ahmedhodzic has amassed 45 appearances and scored twice with Malmoe since returning after a couple of years Nottingham Forest and a loan spell at Hobro. He has been chosen as the best youngster in the Allsvenskan in the past campaign. The 21-year-old center has two caps with Bosnia after playing for Sweden at a youth level. Local newspaper L’Eco di Bergamo reported mid-February the the Goddess will spend roughly €8M to purchase him, beating the competition coming also from Chelsea and PSV. He will sign a four-year contract.
