Atalanta to Sign Soppy from Udinese, Eye Modena Weapon

Atalanta are about to welcome in a new right-back, as Brandon Soppy will be in Bergamo today to take the medicals and sign his new contract, while they have earmarked Modena revelation Paulo Azzi for the left flank.

As per Sky, La Dea orchestrated the deal with Udinese in a hurry. They will pay a €9M fee plus €1M add-ons. The 20-year-old joined the Bianconeri from Rennes for €2M last year. He collected 28 Serie A appearances in his first season, where he deputized Nahuel Molina. If he makes the squad, he will face Milan in two consecutive matches.

While Soppy will join in short order, Atalanta must negotiate some more to onboard Azzi. According to Corriere di Bergamo (via Tuttomercatoweb), Modena set a €7M price tag. The Orobici consider it excessive since he has had success just in Serie C thus far. The Nerazzurri will offer youngsters Giorgio Cittadini and Simone Panada, who already joined the Canarini on loan, on permanent deals to sweeten the pot.

The 28-year-old late bloomer has starred in multiple teams in the third division in recent years. He broke through in the most recent season, completing his transition from attacker to fullback. He posted 7 goals and 7 assists in 37 appearances, helping his team gain the promotion.

Our Take on Atalanta Signing Soppy and Tracking Azzi

Gian Piero Gasperini wasn’t kidding when he recently stated that they were just getting started on the transfer market. The right-back is still very raw but displayed glimpses of potential and could thrive in their design thanks to his athleticism. It’s weird that the Friuliani are letting him go having a hole in such role. The other acquisition would be quirky but potentially productive.
