Atalanta have been paired up with Sporting CP in the Europa League’s Round of 16, and Milan will be an interested spectator, not only because they could potentially face one of the two teams later on in the competition, but also to keep tabs on how Viktor Gyokeres fares against a Serie A side, Calciomercato informs.
The marksman is one of their fallback options to shore up the attack in the summer. He has been filling his boots this season. He has totaled 30 goals and 11 assists in 33 appearances, hitting the net 17 times domestically.
Milan would face fierce competition if they went after Gyokeres. His price tag is hefty since he moved to Portugal for €20M in July. He has a €100M release clause. Chelsea inquired in January, but Sporting CP quickly rebuffed them.
The 25-year-old was unearthed by Brighton back in 2018 when they acquired him from Brommapojkarna. They loaned him out a few times to St. Pauli, Swansea City, and Coventry City and gave up on him in 2021, even though he produced in the Championship.
Our Take on Milan and Gyokeres
He has had a peculiar trajectory and, being basically a pure goal poacher, he’d be different than Olivier Giroud and the other names they have been attached to. Since he’s not a starlet, he’d be a real option only if his price tag wasn’t crazy high, which probably won’t be the case.
