Atalanta and Spezia Tussling for Modena Revelation

Modena cruised to Serie B promotion last season, thanks in part to the performances of Brazilian forward Paulo Azzi, who is now attracting the interest of multiple Serie A teams, Atalanta and Spezia in particular.  The versatile 28-year-old winger is well-known for his inverted style of play.

As per Calciomercato, the Bergamaschi are in the front row for his signature having already initiated contacts with the management of the Emilian club. Despite its interest, La Dea is understood to be turned off by Modena’s transfer price demand – in the range of €8M. They want to add two of their own players, on loan, and close the deal around the €2-3M mark.

However, Atalanta aren’t the only ones keeping close tabs Azzi. Spezia are also interested in luring the wing-back to Liguria, where he had spent a part of 2015 in an unfruitful loan spell. Sassuolo and Sampdoria are also reportedly interested.

Originally an attacker, Azzi has evolved over the years to function in more defensive roles, especially as a left-back. Despite the position, he has tallied seven goals and seven assists in the most recent season. His Modena contract expires in 2023.
