Atalanta vs Monza 3-0: Scamacca Puts On a Show at Gewiss Stadium

Atalanta recovered from last weekend’s shock at Frosinone with a scintillating 3-0 romping of Monza at the Gewiss Stadium. Gianluca Scamacca celebrated his first Serie A start for La Dea with a sublime individual performance. After Charles De Ketelaere’s debut goal against Sassuolo, it was the Italian’s time to shine.

Like last season, Monza boss Raffaele Palladino refused to let the stature of his opposition faze him. Instead, the visitors tried to go toe-to-toe with Atalanta. But their ‘all or nothing’ approach backfired on Sunday evening. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side went on a tear to avenge a disheartening 2-1 loss at Frosinone a week ago.

The opening goal came in the 34th minute as Ederson reacted well to the rebound inside Monza’s penalty box, slotting home an inch-perfect finish to put Atalanta in front. Only seven minutes later, Scamacca opened his La Dea account with a well-taken low effort from inside the box to secure clear daylight between the sides at halftime.

Despite boasting a clear-cut lead at the break, Atalanta never took their feet off the gas. Scamacca showed up again. The 24-year-old unleashed a devastating left-footed effort from mid-range into the far bottom corner to double his tally and send the Gewiss Stadium crowd into a dreamland. There was never a way back for Monza after that.

Scamacca was on a hat-trick when he found himself unmarked yards away from Michele Di Gregorio’s goal before poking the ball into the net with a poacher’s finish. However, VAR cut short his celebration, finding him a fraction offside. Atalanta protected their cruising advantage in the remainder of the game to head into the international break in high spirits.
