Atalanta Warn Juventus While Talks with Celtic Stall

Atalanta continue to track Matt O’Riley, but their offer is quite distant from Celtic Glasgow’s valuation. The Scottish club is in good shape financially and doesn’t need to sell after qualifying for the Champions League. La Dea raised its previous bid and tendered €17/18M, but the request is at least €7/8M more. The midfielder is under contract until 2027, Calciomercato informs.

Coach Brendan Rodgers addressed the situation in a recent presser (via BBC).

“There’s no update. He knows the privilege it is to play for Celtic. It’s a club where you can move on from, but it’s very difficult, and you don’t have do. Naturally, with the wages that are on offer for players, that makes it a real challenge for us to compete at that level. He knows what he has here. We’re all quite relaxed with it. Everyone has a value, we know that.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, Atalanta insist that their chase of O’Riley has nothing to do with the potential departure of Teun Koopmeiners. In any case, they have set a deadline to sell the Dutchman, which falls on August 14th, when they’ll face Real Madrid in the European Super Cup.

They don’t want to deal with lingering transfer market sagas past that. Serie A will kick off a few days later.

Our Take on Atalanta, O’Riley, and Koopmeiners

Whether or not the two things are intertwined will be clear depending on their level of determination to land him and if they’ll raise their offer again in short order. The Bianconeri will surely come back with a vengeance for their maestro after selling Matias Soulé.
