Atletico Target Martinez Amid Progressive Inter Talks with Dybala

With Inter edging closer to Paulo Dybala, despite the recent reports of the Nerazzurri unlikely to meet his wage demands, another Argentine’s future in Serie A is being called in question. Lautaro Martinez may have witnessed a resurgence of late, but the idea of his departure, along with that of Dutch center-back Stefan De Vrij could open up financial avenues for Inter to navigate through the transfer market in the summer.

According to La Repubblica, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid is courting ‘El Toro’ Martinez for a move in the summer in order to boost their already fiery frontline. The Rojiblancos’ valuation of the Nerazzurri striker is below the €60m mark asked by the Italians. Nevertheless, coach Simeone is keen on boosting his Argentine connection and has already passed on the idea to the club’s upper management.

Inter have long pursued Dybala and Martinez’s exit could open up the wage bill to accommodate the Juventus outcast. Moreover, Martinez’s transfer fee is bound to aid the Nerazzurri in funding their long-term targets in Sassuolo duo Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Frattesi – with Neroverdi CEO recently commenting that €65m in combined fees for his players being ‘low’.

However, nothing is ever simple in the football transfer market. Atletico are also contenders to bag Dybala’s signature and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are another club hot on Martinez’s trail.
