Barcelona and Tottenham Make Contact for Inter Stopper

Inter defensive mainstay Stefan De Vrij has been inquired about by three clubs for a potential transfer next summer – ahead of January’s winter transfer window. Agent Mino Raiola has reportedly been contacted for the services of his player, whose contract at the Giuseppe Meazza expires in June 2023.

According to exclusive reports from Italian outlet FCInterNews, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing for the Dutch center-back at the end of the current season i.e. when he enters the final year of his Inter contract. Newcastle United are also said to be interested.

The Nerazzurri had previously planned to offer him a contract extension until the summer of 2025, with a wage increase to €4.5m net per season from his current salary of around €4m.

However, sporting director Piero Ausilio recently made it clear in an interview with Sky Italia that De Vrij’s contract renewal is currently not a priority, given the club’s precarious financial position and also his situation.

The Dutchman has been at the heart of the Nerazzurri backline for four years running now, having registered almost 150 appearances for the Milan natives.

The 29-year-old has a market value of €50m, according to transfermarkt.
