Barcelona-Bound Kessié: “No Better Way to Leave Milan”

Ivorian ace Franck Kessié will finally say goodbye to Milan after leading the midfield line for five straight years, registering 224 caps for the Rossoneri, while also scoring 39 goals in the process. His last match for them against Sassuolo helped deliver the club’s 19thScudetto after a decade-long hiatus.

Post-match, Kessié confirmed that there is “no better way to bid farewell” to the fans and the club. Speaking to Canal+ after the match, he revealed his strong feelings towards the red and black divide of Milan, having spent five years at the top of his game after arriving from Atalanta.

“They are really strong sensations. It was five very important years where I married a project. I am very happy for the city, for the club, for my teammates, for the coach, for me and for my whole family.” (via MilanNews)

Kessié joined Milan from Atalanta in 2017-18, before which he helped Cesena get to the Serie B promotion play-offs in his debut professional season.

It’s my last month of contract here, but in these five years we have managed to get back to the Champions League and win the Scudetto. I did what they bought me for and I think there is no better way to say goodbye.”

He is expected to play for Barcelona next season – news that the Rossoneri faithful didn’t take very well. The Curva Sud went all the way to reveal a tifo that said: “Whoever loves Milan can prove it with facts. Best regards to the ones who are dissatisfied.”
