Barcelona Exec Rules Out Kessié and Depay Departures

Multiple Serie A sides have been linked to Franck Kessié and Memphis Depay, but Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff doesn’t anticipate January exits, as he told Mundo Deportivo. The Ivorian ace is reportedly in Inter and Napoli’s crosshairs.

“His departure isn’t in our or his plans despite the rumors I read lately.”

The exec went into detail on the attacker, whom Roma have begun pursuing either for the next window or the summer, when he’ll be out of contract.

“He got hurt, and he couldn’t play as much as he and the team wanted. He started a few matches and scored nice goals before the injury. We have to take everything into consideration, also the fact that Robert Lewandowski is suspended for three matches.”

“A sale doesn’t make much sense if it doesn’t help with the Financial Fair Play. He has always shown impeccable commitment, and Xavi would be the first to attest to that. He’s not a troublemaker, and he has always shown up when called upon. Our focus is to have a competitive team for the second half of the season. If he recovers, he can help any side a lot, as he’s demonstrating with the Netherlands.”

While Kessié is tied to Barcelona with a long-term contract, they risk losing Depay for nothing in the summer. Cruyff weighed in.

“We’ll see what the situation will be at that point. Today’s reality is that we won’t have Lewandowski for three games, so it would be weird to rush transfers. Everybody is necessary, even those that seemed excess players in September.”
