In a shocking turn of events, Juventus are preparing to lose star forward Federico Bernardeschi after Spanish giants Barcelona initiated talks for the soon-to-be free agent whose contact in Turin expires in June 2022.
According to Spanish media outlet SPORT, Barcelona CEO Mateu Alemany had a brief informal encounter with the player’s representative Federico Pastorello, in which the duo discussed the possibility of Bernardeschi playing in La Liga next season in Blaugrana colours. Bernardeschi only recently left Mino Raiola’s services to pair up with Pastorello.
Barcelona have been marred with inconsistencies and poor run to form of late, to add to their financial woes.
The club are in no position to cash out huge sums of transfer fees and the opportunity to bring in the EURO 2020 winner on a free transfer is a mouth-watering prospect.
Xavi Hernandez’s side are in dire need of reinforcements all across different positions in the squad – most recently being subject to the rude awakening of Sergio Aguero’s heavy-hearted early retirement from the game.
Bernardeschi’s stance at the Allianz Stadium seems to be leaning towards the exit door as he has not yet renewed contract terms with the Bianconeri, due to the lower wages.
