Barcelona Outcast Offered to Roma by His Entourage

Memphis Depay stayed at Barcelona after a long courtship by Juventus in the summer, but he hasn’t had a good start to the season, and his agents reached out to Roma to gauge their interest for a potential January move, among a few other sides, Calciomercato relays.

The Dutchman has played just three matches so far, missing a lot of time because of a thigh injury. He’s highly likely to depart in January, but the destination remains to be determined. His camp might also touch base with the Bianconeri again to see whether they are keen.

Roma have filed away the candidacy of Depay. They don’t currently plan to add another attacker on top of Ola Solbakken. Though, they like the player, and he would probably be available on a free transfer. Their priority is to sign a center-back if they find the right one for cheap.

The 28-year-old appeared poised to join the Old Lady in the summer, but the contract talks fell apart over his requests. The Serie A powerhouse eventually preferred acquiring Arkadiusz Milik on a season-long loan with an option to buy from Olympique Marseille.

Our Take on Depay Being Linked by Roma

As it happens seemingly every window, he’s rumored to move to Serie A, but he’s highly unlikely to wind up in the Italian capital. While they are no strangers to proven players, his salary is way too high for their standards. He would have to agree to a steep pay cut, which didn’t happen in the summer when Juventus were much more determined. Unless there are multiple offensive departures, which shouldn’t be the case, the Giallorossi will probably be content with onboarding Solbakken.
