Barcelona Set Sights on Former Juventus Star to Address Gaping Hole

Former Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could come out of retirement to join La Liga title hopefuls Barcelona. According to TMW, Los Blaugranas have identified the ex-Poland international as a cost-effective solution to replace the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Szczesny joined Juventus in 2017 from Arsenal and became an icon in Turin during his seven-year stint at the Allianz Stadium. Though filing the shoes of the legendary Gianluigi Buffon was never a straightforward task, the 34-year-old exceeded expectations.
After lifting the Scudetto in his first year in Serie A, the Pole helped Juventus win two more league titles before parting with the club this summer. Thiago Motta’s side purchased Michele Di Gregorio from Monza, which signaled the end of Szczesny’s time in Italy.
Despite Monza’s audacious attempt to lure him to stay in Serie A after his contract at Juventus ran out, Szczesny refused their offer. Lucrative approaches from the Middle East also fell on the veteran’s deaf ears. Instead, he decided to hang up his boots.
However, the former Juventus star may have not played his last game yet. After losing Ter Stegen to a long-term injury, Barcelona have inquired about Szczesny, earmarking him as a season-long replacement for the German stopper.
The report says the Camp Nou outfit could offer Szczesny a short-term deal in Spain as they must address this glaring issue on short notice. Despite bidding farewell to football, it’s hard to expect the Polish goalkeeper to turn down such an exciting opportunity.
