Bari Return to Serie B Four Years After Going Bankrupt

Bari will be back in Serie B next season after declaring bankruptcy four years ago. The club returns to Italy’s second flight after years of disappointing performances and will dream of making a return to Serie A in the coming years.

Mirco Antenucci’s opener was enough to see the Biancorossi take a narrow 1-0 victory over Latina and claim the Serie C Group C title on matchday 35. Bari have proven to be one of the best sides across all the league’s groups, having lost just four games this season.

Bari were originally founded in 1908 but needed to refound in 2018 following their insolvency.

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis had won the rights to establish a phoenix club of Bari and had clear intentions of bringing the Apulia-based outfit back to Serie A. De Laurentiis’ son, Luigi, has acted as the chairman of the club since it is not allowed for the same person to own two clubs in Italy’s top flight.

The club had spent €11 million earlier this year to renovate the Stadio San Nicola so that their stadium would be approved for Serie B ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Bari are the most decorated club from the Apulia region in Italy and are ranked 17th in the all-time Serie A standings.
