Joshua Zirkzee delivered again the Atalanta game, burying a PK, further fueling the rumors about his future, which goes through Bayern Munich considering their €40M buy-back clause. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was quizzed about it by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Fantacalcio).
“He played well in my final year as the CEO. He often scored important goals when Hansi Flick fielded him, and not only in garbage time, allowing us to win meaningful matches. I’m happy he’s doing well because he deserves it. He has always done fine with us, but he was unlucky since there was Robert Lewandowski ahead of him.”
Rummenigge stated he wouldn’t be the one making the call about bringing back Zirkzee.
“We hired a new director, Max Eberl. I don’t want to meddle with his work. He needs to prove he has the great qualities I believe he has. I don’t want to condition him. I don’t know whether the clause will be activated or not. It will be a matter for the summer window.”
The Dutchman reached the double-digit threshold in Serie A with his latest goal. He also dished four assists. The Bavarians would be entitled to 40 percent of the fee if they didn’t activate their option.

It was probably the only way for Bologna to get the deal done, but they aren’t in a great spot. Considering today’s price tags, Bayern Munich should acquire him even if they don’t plan to keep him. They’d easily make a profit by flipping him.
