Bayern Munich Join Chelsea in Race for Juventus Star

Bayern Munich have inquired about Matthijs De Ligt and have begun rivaling Chelsea to sign him from Juventus. The Bianconeri are holding firm on their lofty demands but seem resigned to losing him. The blockbuster sale would give them plenty of cash to use in other deals.

According to SportMediaset, the Bianconeri want the suitors to come close to his €120M release clause. That is unlikely to happen. However, the fee could end up near the €100M threshold through wealthy add-ons. The Old Lady is in a hurry to find a solution to avoid what happened with Cristiano Ronaldo. He left in the final days of the window, and they could not substitute him properly right away.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea have proposed around €70M plus add-ons for De Ligt so far, Calciomercato informs. The German powerhouse have a tight relationship with the Raiola agency. They have signed their clients Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch earlier in the window. The contract would not be an issue, and the Dutchman would get a slight raise in either case. While Bild reports that he prefers the Bundesliga giants, that was not confirmed by Gianluca Di Marzio and other Italian sources.

Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene recently hinted that the defender wanted out in an interview. The player himself stated that he was unhappy with the team finishing 4th twice in a row.

Our Take on Chelsea and Bayern Munich Targeting De Ligt

It seems just a matter of time before the Bianconeri part ways with the center-back. If the proposals are equal, considering his previous ambitious remarks, he will pick the team that gives him the best chance to win the Champions League. Considering the two contenders, that is a proper conundrum.
