Bayern Munich Left Race for In-Demand Inter Milan Star Achraf Hakimi

Bayern Munich are out of contention for the signing of the outgoing Inter Milan right wing-back Achraf Hakimi. According to German news outlet Bild (via SempreInter), the Bavarians have abandoned their interest in the ex-Real Madrid man.

The 22-year-old is likely to leave the Giuseppe Meazza after a single season and should command a hefty price tag as Inter look to raise funds from player sales. Several of Europe’s big guns have registered interest in the Morocco international, who is widely considered one of the best wing-backs in Europe’s top-five divisions.

Although Paris Saint-Germain seemed to be on the brink of capturing the right-back’s services, the deal has failed to materialize. Bayern have recently displayed interest in Hakimi, but they have already withdrawn themselves from the race.

The German powerhouse are on the lookout for potential reinforcements. However, they are not willing to fork out massive figures, particularly in light of the financial turmoil caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

With the perennial Bundesliga champions now out of the running, Chelsea and PSG are going head-to-head for Hakimi’s signature. Both sides are determined to land the former Real Madrid outcast, with Thomas Tuchel a known admirer of the player’s qualities.

Not many clubs in Europe can afford Hakimi’s price tag. Inter have pinned a substantial £43million asking price on their prized asset’s head and are unwilling to budge on their valuation.

Hakimi played a prominent role in the 2020/21 season as the Nerazzurri halted Juventus’ nine-year tenure in Serie A under the stewardship of Antonio Conte. He finished the campaign with seven goals and 11 assists to his name, a haul that makes him the most productive defender in Europe’s top-five leagues.
