Behind the Failed Transfer of Nahitan Nandez at Juventus

Despite seeming on the verge of leaving Cagliari multiple times during this past transfer market, Nahitan Nandez ultimately stayed put and remained in Sardinia.

It is not a secret that the Uruguayan midfielder wanted to leave the Rossoblu as soon as possible. Indeed, Nández already said that he will not extend his contract with the Sardinian team.

Inter were after him last summer but the deal with the Nerazzurri never seemed close, mostly because the Rossoblu did not come to terms with the low offer proposed by Inter. During the most recent window, Nández saw a new light at the end of the tunnel as Juventus approached. The Bianconeri held talks with Cagliari for days but to no avail.

Federico Cherubini, the Director of Football of Juventus, tried to talk the Sardinians into an initial offer. The Bianconeri wanted the Uruguay international on loan with an option to buy. They also proposed to add Brazilian youngster Kaio Jorge to the deal, offering to ship the player to Sardinia on a six-month loan as part of the negotiation.

But despite Nandez’s willingness to move to Turin, the Juventus management ultimately preferred to keep Kaio Jorge as the Uruguayan player had no option left but to remain at Cagliari. For how long, it remains to be seen.
