Lazio target Domenico Berardi has dropped a bomb revealing the uncertain stance surrounding his future: “I don’t know if I’ll be here.” Having long been linked to the exit door, the Neroverdi reportedly handed the 29-year-old a deadline to find his next destination.
Speaking at Sassuolo’s 2023/24 season presentation (via Tuttomercatoweb), coincidentally on the occasion of his birthday, Berardi revealed his optimism ahead of a new season, albeit with the chance of not wearing the green and black shirt.
“Thanks to everyone for the good wishes. It’s always nice. I’ve been here for so many years, feeling this warmth makes me proud. We hope to improve compared to last year because we didn’t start well but we have to start again from the scratch, trying to improve. I’m sure we’ll do well, but I don’t know if I’ll be here.”
The forward signed a new deal only recently, which lasts until the summer of 2027, but the reports surrounding his exit have not dulled down. Target of interest from top clubs such as Lazio, Juventus, and Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr, Berardi has now been given August 20 as the designated deadline to find a new club.
Claudio Lotito’s Biancocelesti are leading the race, but his €25-30M price tag is perceived as high given his age.
Our Take on the Berardi Saga
The Cosenza and Sassuolo youth product will remain in Emilia-Romagna for a 12th consecutive season if he decides to stay. He has the chance to prove his loyalty to the club that gave him the opportunity to shine. However, the prospect of starring for a bigger club and winning titles cannot be understated. A fitting bid, perhaps by Lazio, is bound to lure him away from the Mapei Stadium.
