Betis Come Back into the Picture for Milan Castaway

Milan axed three players from their squad list for the opener, Alexis Saelemaekers, Fode Ballo-Touré, and Divock Origi. They are no longer part of the technical plans. The Belgian winger is in talks with Betis, Sky relays (via Eurosport).

The Spanish side reportedly struck a deal on personal terms and will soon start haggling with the Rossoneri. The versatile midfielder collected 140 appearances and posted 10 goals and 14 assists in the past three-and-a-half seasons in Italy.

Saelemaekers could be the first outcast to flee Milan. The departures of Origi and Ballo-Touré don’t have much steam. The Belgian striker is waiting for an offer from the Premier League. The fullback was close Werder Bremen.

The Rossoneri decided to overhaul their right wing by signing Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze, which made Junior Messias and the Belgian international expendable. The Brazilian joined Genoa on loan with an obligation to buy.

Our Take on Milan and Saelemaekers

While he’s an okay player, other than for the additions, he paid the price for the tactical switch, as they no longer need somebody with a high work rate in his role, and for the fact that they never went all the way in turning him into a fullback, which could have perhaps worked. They acquired him for €10M three years ago, so the fee shouldn’t be a big roadblock.
