Former Milan player and executive Zvonimir Boban, who’s back at UEFA, commented on Zlatan Ibrahimovic re-upping his contract in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It’s not right for him to keep playing. But I understand and he will continue because I know how he reasons. We Rossoneri fans will always be grateful to him. Everything changed when he joined. He’s a unique player.”
The former legend assessed last season’s campaign.
“I wasn’t overly surprised by them winning the title. Their squad was stronger than what people thought. Inter were superior and had a large advantage. It’s not for me to say whether I contributed a little too. I called Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara to congratulate them, and they put Stefano Pioli on the line while they were on the bus coming back from the last game. This Scudetto was better than 1999’s one, but repeating is the real challenge.”
Boban dished on his messy divorce with Milan.
“I would do it again because it was a matter of respect and dignity. I wasn’t a saint, and I’m sorry for what happened, but I’m proud of it. Maldini has worked well and he deserves recognition. He’s fundamental. It was disappointing that it took the club so long to extend his contact.”
The Croatian icon commented on Charles De Ketelaere and the 2022/2023 title picture.
“He has class and personality, while I have doubts about his quickness. You need it to be a world-class player. He’s a talent and belongs for sure. Juventus are hungry and have quality, but I have reservations on them. Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala were coups for Inter and Roma, while I’m intrigued by Napoli’s rebuild.”
