Joshua Zirkzee’s big-money switch to Manchester United has left a substantial void in the Bologna attacking department, forcing the club to scour the market for replacements. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Vincenzo Italiano’s charges have earmarked Toulouse talisman Thijs Dallinga as the Dutch forward’s heir.
Bologna have already stepped up negotiations with the Ligue 1 side, hoping to close the deal at €15 million plus bonuses. Though Toulouse entered talks with an €18m asking price, there’s plenty of wriggle room, especially with the player keen to feature in the Champions League.
Dallinga’s desire to leave downtrodden Toulouse gives Bologna hope that they could get the deal over the line on favorable terms. With the new Serie A season only a month away, Italiano is getting desperate for reinforcements, not least because Bologna are on the verge of selling another prized asset.
Riccardo Calafiori is one step away from joining Arsenal after the Gunners agreed to pay Bologna €40m plus add-ons for the highly-rated defender. While they close in on another high-profile sale, the Rossoblu can’t neglect the incoming sector.
Bologna will compete at Europe’s top table next season. That’s somewhat uncharted territory for the Renato Dall’Ara outfit. As a result, Italiano must ensure squad depth and find suitable replacements for his outgoing first-team stars.
At 24, Dallinga could be an ideal signing for Bologna. He’s already an established Ligue 1 striker. Last season, he bagged 19 goals and chipped in with five assists across 44 competitive appearances.
