Bologna Ace Ferguson Excited to Continue Under Motta

Scotland international Lewis Ferguson was expected to leave Bologna amid heightened interest from top clubs such as Napoli, Milan, and Juventus, but his recent contract extension means he is a concrete part of Thiago Motta’s future plans. The Rangers academy product is excited to continue in the Rossoblù jersey.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TuttoBolognaweb) in an exclusive, Ferguson dished on a variety of topics, including his recent contract renewal.

“I’m happy with my family and also with the renewal of my contract. In Bologna I know I can grow again and again, having fun playing football. That’s why I didn’t want to take anything else into consideration. At the beginning, after 23 years in Scotland, I struggled to settle in. I had to watch the first two matches from the stands due to a disqualification, but the first thing I said to myself playing the first match was: Ok, Lewis, you can stay too.”

He hopes to score a bicycle kick in the future.

“I think my most beautiful one was at Sassuolo, while perhaps the most important was the one at Lecce. How would I like to score? Bicycle kick, I’ve already done it, at Burnley when I was in Aberdeen. If I could do it again, it would be fantastic.”

Finally, Ferguson praised Motta for bringing the team together

“Thiago knows how to create a team; he has developed a game that amuses us and the fans. With him, I can improve. He taught me a new way to play. He has a great passion.”

Directors Giovanni Sartori and Marco Di Vaio have maintained trust in the 23-year-old, who is expected to build further upon his breakthrough Serie A season. Ferguson is the highest-scoring Scot in Serie A since Denis Law for Torino in 1962.
